Hoff's review

Dear Jan:

In my letter to you about Hoff's review I was thinking mainly about the reply we would make to possible assertions that the two additional dimensions were introduced into the theory on an ad hoc basis. After all, it is the validity of the theoretical development that I am most concerned about defending. But a reply to Hoff's review will have to be addressed specifically to the factual situation that is covered in the book that is being reviewed, and it should not contain any reference to the theory. I have therefore made the appropriate changes in the letter. Please pass this on to the editor.
