Motion is simply a ratio of space to time, regardless of which is in the numerator or denominator, or what powers are applied to each.

Some of the basic motions are:

  • s/t = speed
  • t/s = energy
  • s/t2 = acceleration
  • t/s2 = force
  • t2/s2 = momentum
  • t3/s3 = mass

Note that motion has nothing to do with "something moving." It is just a generic word for "ratio."
